Izwi Lamagugu Anthology: A Triumph for Mpumalanga’s Poetic Voices

The IZWI LAMAGUGU book of Mpumalanga Poetry is really exciting for poets. It gives them a chance to share their work with others. This project started in Nkomazi. Went to Mkondo Municipality. It had poetry workshops to help new poets get better.

In these workshops poets got help from teachers. They got feedback to make their poetry better. From these workshops 25 poets were chosen to be in the book. For many it was their time getting published. Getting a copy of the book was a deal for them. It showed that people recognized their work and love for poetry.

The Mpumalanga Arts Hub managed the project. Enos Sambo was the Project Manager. Thobile Maluleke was the Project Coordinator. Colile Mkhatshwa was the Project Administrator. Nontokozo Phiri was the Project Facilitator. They worked hard to make sure everything went smoothly. The National Heritage Council also helped by giving money. Mbokodo Publishers published the book. They are a known publisher, in South Africa.

The IZWI LAMAGUGU project wanted to celebrate Mpumalanga’s languages. These include SiSwati, isiZulu, isiNdebele and Xitsonga. The project wanted to show how rich and special these languages are. It encouraged poets to write in their own languages. This way these languages will stay important and alive.

The poets are very happy and thankful. They said this project gave their work importance and helped people see it. For Mpumalanga’s poetry community IZWI LAMAGUGU is a celebration. It’s a celebration of culture, talent and community. It inspires poets to be proud and confident.
